Default Lightweight Wheels

I’ve been browsing and researching lightweight wheels on a more serious note recently because I’m looking into getting a set for my Accord V6 coupe -2013.

Anyways I’ve been looking at Volk TE37s since I was 16 and just dreaming after I see the price of brand new individual wheels. I’ve seen brand new individual 17x8 TE37 wheels go for +-$1000 on eBay and other websites and I’m sure they are worth that. I’ve been lucky to find used sets of 4 for +-$1500, but they’re used, so they usually include dings, scratches, or good ole curb rash. Volk TE37 is the most prestigious lightweight wheel that I personally know of and they are priced accordingly, so I’m honestly scared of owning them. I kind of fear messing them up.

I’ve been looking at 17x8 Enkei RPF1s, 17x8 Enkei RP03s, 17x8 Volk TE37s, and 17x8 Konig Hypergrams. I’ve been comparing weights.

Here are the weights for comparison.
  • 17x8 Enkei RPF1 +35mm offset: 16.1 lbs
  • 17x8 Enkei RP03 +40mm offset: 17.9 lbs
  • 17x8 Volk TE37 +33mm offset: 16.53 lbs (there is also a magnesium version of the TE37 wheel that weighs less and costs more)
  • 17x8 Konig Hypergram +35mm offset: 16.3 lbs

I've started to like the look of these Konig Hypergram wheels. But you pay for what you get, I know... I’ve read reports of all wheels cracking and bending. None of these wheels will be bulletproof. I’m sure TE37s are the most reliable don’t get me wrong.

I would be daily driving with these wheels. I would rather daily drive Enkei or Konig instead of Volk TE37s. Enkei and Konig are selling brand new sets 17x8 for around $1000~ and I’m thinking of going Konig or maybe Enkei.

Anyways, please give your experiences, history, or knowledge with any of these wheels. If you notice any errors, let me know. I thoroughly researched and checked the weights as I entered them. Let me know what y’all think!

Here are some pictures of wheels in order from the top of the list going down.

Yea I agree, I got back to favoring TE37 before I checked the thread again.
I guess that I get tempted by cheap priced wheels sometimes. The weights are interesting though.

Don’t Forget 949 Racing if you need light and budget friendly in the same wheel.

Simply from a cost analysis, nothing competes with the Konig's. They're the cheapest of the lot, and also provide almost the lowest weight at the size requested. Plus, I wouldn't really daily drive a set of TE37's unless I had money to throw away. Track driving and show cars are more its place then the every day grind. I ran Hypergrams for 2 years through some of the worst roads in the country (Wisconsin) and also through salt-road Winters. They held up fantastically well.

From the price side of things, yes I agree Konig’s are the cheapest and they also sound like they hold up fine according to your experience. Do you have an pictures of them mounted?

For the Accord I daily drive, I think Konig’s may be the better choice. TE37s are better wheels for my Integra that I modify and don’t drive daily. Then again, maybe I’m just being tempted by the cheap wheels again... anyone daily drive on TE37?

I realize this thread is old now and OP has likely made his decision, but for future reference I always like to remind people that TWS exists, and IMO is a better foundry than Rays. TWS aka Taneisya has made many famous lightweight wheels you are all familiar with like the KEI Office, the Real Racing R2, the CP-035, Sparco Viper and more.

For reference the TWS T-66 in the 17x8 size is 2 pounds lighter than the TE37 at 14 lbs, and it's cheaper too.

I vote for the Enkei RPF1s, because that's what I would buy. However, if you've been dreaming of the Volks since you were 16, you should get those. Otherwise, if you get any other wheel, you'll always look at them and long for the Volks that you always wanted. If you can afford them (and the tires) I say go for the Volks. If not (because they are expensive IMO), I think the RPF1s are a great alternative.

RPF1s are great in every way except for brake clearance.
