Basic information on how to read/study a tire. This video demonstrates how to tell what causes improper wear, broken belts, when the tires need to be changed, low or high tire pressure, build date of the tire, etc.

Re: DIY: Inspecting Tires (Video Tutorial)
This video is full of so much mis-information it should be removed. You have to be pretty ignorant to think having the vehicle sit like that caused the steel belts to be exposed. That irregular wear came from a bad alignment. the cupping of the tires came from the suspension, probably the shocks. Neither one of those tires were separated (had a broken belt as you say)

You got the sizing right to a certain extent. However the section width is not just the tread width, its the widest part of the tire wrapped around the top of the tread.

You are a bit off with the M+S rating. In order to be classified as a all season tire it MUST have a M+S rating. Just because it has that M+S rating does not mean its specifically meant for the mud or the snow. Most high end cars come with a higher speed rating with a M+S rating.

The plies include more than just the steel belts. It also includes the polyester, nylon and rayon belts.

I'm not even gonna touch on you interpretation of how a LSD or open differential works. Mainly because this is about tires, not diffs.

"It is possible to balance a tire if they are not properly balanced"? WTF? 12:03

Just FYI the date codes have been on there since the 80s. So maybe your definition of a decade and my definition of a decade differs. Although I will give it to you you did read the dates right. But keep in mind they can also be 3 digit numbers too not just 4. 349 for instance would be 34th week of 99 or possible 89.

I don't mean to pick on you, but you can't really claim to be a tire expert when you run "Hercules" Tires.

Once again I am not trying to pick on you. It really irritates me when someone spreads so much information. This particular one is so bad, I think you should remove the video.

To be honest, this video includes a lot of misinformation. I understand the intentions, and can appreciate them... but for the sake of other users looking for information that is factual, this video isn't one I would suggest.

Sorry, but the video has been removed for false information.
