17's on a DX
I have a chance to get some pretty nice 17's for a good price.. they're Centerline Exels and they come with Falken Ziex 205/40/17 tires. My car is sitting on stock suspension right now, but i would like to drop it on H&R Sports soon... I was wondering if these will rub?
or
?
or
?
i have 17's on my ex at the stock ride height and have not noticed them ever rubbing. but they diffently change the ride quality cause there is no side wall.. so if there are a lot of potholes where you live like i have then you might want to reconsider

Yes, potholes are horrible for low profile tires.
My friend had a set of 18's for a year and blewout probably 3 or 4 tires. Well, one of them he ran over a piece of rebar.
I have 18s now
and a 1.5" drop. Only the right one rubs, and that's only when I turn the wheel all the way to the left.

I have 17's on mine with the exact same tire and I personally don't like it. I love the look but the ride is hell around these parts. One of my friends has 16's with a 205/45/16 same tire and i like his better, not but much but still better. I feel his handles better too but we also have different suspension set ups also.

well your BOY must be weak. I have 17x7.5 on my 93 hatch with no rubbing issues.
just make sure you get the right offset and youll be alright.

Why are you bumping it? People have told you that it won't rub, even when they're 3" lower.

the obvious thing to check for is cracks. some of the other things that you may want to keep in mind. Lots of ding and scraps on the wheel could mean that the wheel has been repeatedly bounced of curbs or that it has hit a pothole hard enough that the might not be true anymore.. not saying this is the case but i have heard of it happening.. safe thing to do if a visual inspection does not yield any warning flags would be to take the wheels to a tire shop in have them unmount the tire and check the wheel for its trueness...
17s will work on a civic. but they get camber wear, because of the size, and can rub on turns, and make a very harsh ride. if you have an auto the extra weight and mass and make the life span of your tranny shorter aswell.
Personaly i think 17s on a civic is just plain old stupid. my brothers 92 DX hatch had them, and it looked out of place, like a 4x4 and they had bad camber wear all around. stock everything, and it was aligned.

Like a lot of other people here it seems, I made the mistake of 17's. Don't need them if you car is <2500lbs I think. The heavier, the bigger brakes you may want, so you'd have to up the wheels. Also, big wheels don't look sexy on a civic like they do on a vette or bimmer or something.
Stock height they look fine, I don't know why would lower them at all. There might be a half inch of space but That's good cool. Make sure they are woren down evenly before you by them. Lay down onyou're stomach and see how they sit. If they lean, it might be alright just take some off the price.

The best place to ask this question will be in Appearance and Cosmetic, which is found here:

Yes, you do have a technical question regarding your suspension setup, but there's PLENTY of users on Appearance and Cosmetic, who have ran 17" wheels, which will influence your decision even more.
IMO, don't go over 16", but that's my opinion. You come up with issues of rubbing and eating away your tires, sooner or later, with the rubbing that will occur on a daily basis.
Running 17" wheels on stock suspension will just look plain funny. I've seen PLENTY of Civics, on 17s, that look ridiculous on stock suspension with bigger rims. But then again, it's up to preference.

I decided not to buy the 17's but get a set of brandnew 15's... any suggestions? I'm not loaded so I was thinking either Konig Heliums, or 5zigen FNO1R-C's... and what size tire should I get.. tirerack.com suggests 195/55-15...
Cheap racing wheels here, just don't hit a curb:

Also, I've always loved the lt. grey Kosei K1 TS's, but they're also not a strong wheel:
