Workbench Picture Request
I'm looking to build a nice workbench for in my garage and I would really appreciate it if people could post up pictures of their own workbenches. I'm planning on having a pretty long portion of it where I can stand and work on things as well as a shorter welding table portion of it where I can sit and weld or work on things. I also plan to have a large air compressor in the corner and a vice on the workbench. I'm really just looking for ideas here on how I can make a good workbench that is very sturdy the first time and not have to worry about rebuilding it better in the future. Any and all pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
A word of advice on the compressor. Put it outside, in a covered shed or something if at all possible. OR, build a contained closet for it with a fresh air input, and insulate the crap out of it with tarpaper or some sort of sound-absorbing material. I can't stand having my compressor in my shop, but I can't move mine. A buddy installed his IR compressor on the other side of a wall, and build a small closet around it with thick cloth and rubber sound-absorbing sheets inside... what a difference. Its nice to have silence aside from the radio when you are working.
I rock a 12' long cabinet top that I purchased at the local surplus store, along with some masonite particle board I'm using for the shelving underneath.
Made the frame out of 2x4's and the legs out of 4x4's. I also have a nice slab of metal up top for when I need to get medieval on something.
Here's some pics...

I built this one in an afternoon. Strong as hell and awesomely big. The hardboard top is the best part..when it gets f'd up, I just take it off and replace it.

Thanks for the advice on the air compressor. I have heard this many times before so I've always kept it in the back of my head. I think I have a little corner in my garage that is surrounded on 3 sides where I could just put a front on it and it should be pretty quiet. All these pictures are giving me some great ideas. Keep the pictures coming and thanks to everyone who has posted pictures. I think i'm going to attempt to build my loft in my garage this weekend and maybe the work bench next weekend.
