welding class in CT. help
I was just wondering if anyone from ct or surrounding areas has ever heard of Bristol Tech. i signed up but im not sure if it is worth it, im looking more into learning fabrication [in depth mig and tig], and i have a feeling im just going to end up wasting my money on these classes. There is a local fabricator who i would rather learn under him if it going to be more hands on. I was told it was more of a 12 week safety course. If anyone can give me some advise on what i should do it would help because i would rather save the $400 and put it towards a welder, and the first class and payment is tonight and its a hour away with out traffic so any input would be much appreciated.

The class was pretty good. Like 15 minutes was dedicated to safety and a little about MIG and it's components. Then we went house on a piece of mild steel. Got a good feel for how to control the pool to get a nice weld. I would have liked to get some more technique, but it's an intro course.

You may want to check the local colleges for a class that is more than just a couple hours. Try find classes that are semesters long because welding takes a while to master. But if you're just learning MIG (which is pretty simple) it shouldn't take too long. You can teach a monkey how to MIG weld in a day but the trick is learning to set the heat and wire speed properly. You may want to consider learning TIG as well, definitely much tougher and more skill-bearing but definitely good to know if you work with cars a lot.
i live 5 minutes from bristol tech. its a good program, but you should look into cheney tech in manchester. they offer a full semester weling class for 275 dollars.
i am currently taking my d2 refrig classes there.
