Default tight radius bends?

why isn't anyone using tight radius pipe bends for their manifolds?

probly because they are like 3x the price of standard bends and really no need for them unless your building somthing that requires them

That's pretty much my reason. My S4 manifolds require 1 tight radius, all the rest are long.

Or maybe because the tighter the bend, the shittier the flow.

i use the normal ones, sense they seam to work perfect for ramhorns, and logs and that kind of stuff.

so if you could get them cheaper, you'd probably be more inclined to use them? i don't understand why they are more expensive when they are a smaller part...

probably a more difficult to manufacture part, or maybe something to do with quantity vs demand.

Either way, I have used them in ramhorns with odd placement exhaust ports.

I end up trying to use no more than one or two if I have to on manifolds here at work. As for cost, it definitely sucks, but price out transition 90* el's sometime.

I have used them for downpipes. But they are a little bit more of a hassle to deal with. Plus they are more expensive.

We have some new options for manifold builders. Our new induction bender just pulled off 1-1/4" sch 10 stainless bends on a 1D radius (1.660" OD x 1.660" radius). This radius is right between the current short radius (1.50") radius and the long radius (1.875").

I know for a lot of the manifolds we build, having legs on the bends would reduce the cost of building the manifold significantly. Also being able to source the proper bend angles on production manifolds will reduce the fabrication time. Combine that with a tighter radius easing fitment for tough manifolds .. This may drastically affect people's bottom line.

Just some food for thought.

They have to be buffed as the process turns them blue.

And just to re-itterate, these are basically exactly half way between a long and a short radius fitting. They are 1*diameter in radius.

why does the process turn them blue? do you have to heat them up to bend them? looks smooth.

Induction benders heat the material as its bent.
