Default TIG Techniques

I recently acquired a used Syncrowave 350 but don't know anyone who has welded TIG and can help me out. I've welded some and can hold a bead, but I have trouble with the filler. Sometimes, I put in too much and half-freeze the bead. Should I be dipping the rod in and out, slow it down, etc.? How do you guys do it?

Also, I don't have a pulser, but I want to know more about it. What does it do other than to help you make pretty welds? How is welding with a pulser different?

Thanks for your help!

Perhaps try a thinner rod, better timing when dipping, but what you probably need is more seat time.

read this incredibly simple, complete $20 book. it will be paid for in better welds almost instantly and youll have more depth of understanding than many seasoned welders. i couldnt begin to explain how much info is packed into this gem. anglevtech is an awesome seller too

edit*

if the bead is solidifying that fast, its not hot enough. thinner filler or more heat.. OR..

if youre not holding the torch and rod at the correct angles, the part isnt getting enough heat and the length of the filler isnt being preheated for the puddle. dont draw the filler outside the reach of the gas shielding. even when you dont want to add filler, you want the rod just ready to melt with the slightest dab.

you should be just touching the rod in the leading edge of the puddle, and it'll melt into the puddle.
