i dont think it a "supplemental" ground i think of it more as a "remote" ground. so the machine ground is seperate from the rest of the electronics. but then again, i didnt make it past teh 10th grade, so wtf do i know
you guys may be refering to an isolated ground, basically, you need a insulated ground bar in your panell that isnt connected to the rest of the grounds on the service, then from that ground you must tie in with your main ground at the ground rod/plate etc. This is just basically to reduce the amount of 'noise' your welder may see from other devices operating from your service. I highly doubt you will notice a difference eaither way.
