Default solid engine / torque dampers ...

I've been reading about the Ingalls torque damper -> it costs to much for a cheap college kid like me i need books instead. i've been reading about the ebay ones, and some people say they blow out after a few months, one guy even welded his solid.

i have a welder, and strong sheet metal is easily accessible, as well as a steel strut, and a solid damper can be made for my car for relatively cheap at home. anyone have any opinions about using a solid damper? bad idea? good idea?

chris

You might want to look into the Prothane urethane inserts for the driver side jelly mount. They cost about $10 and will work better than any typical torque damper. I just put some on and noticed a big difference, and I already had a torque damper along with a Place Racing tranny mount and Energy Suspension urethane inserts for the other 3 mounts.

well you cant really have a "solid damper" as thats impossible. what youre describing would be a truss, and its basically like adding another mount of sorts. but yes people do use things like this, an example being the fullrace traction bar front additional truss. the replacement mount inserts might be a better start, then making some of your actual mounts solid, then adding more stuff if youre still unhappy with the engine movements.
