you should do something like this.
this is Wayne's CRX (JUNcr-x) [i'll take it down if you'd like]

just do something similar with a bigger filter area, depending on what filter you wanna use.

i made the same thing with oem parts. take the lid to your air filter box, turn it upside down. then get a clip to hold the filter in place. its as simple as that, wont condust heat, and free. it does the same thing to.
(a jdm trick i learned while stationed in japan)

w3rd. did you place it upside down? or left it w/ the filter facing down?

when my car was bonestock, i cut the bottom half of the airbox. the bottom piece was only to hold the air filter to the lid. i preferred that over an intake b/c the stock piping doesnt get nearly as hot as an aluminum intake. and well it was free. sounded pretty mean too.

it was almost identical to what is pictures above.
if my digi camera was working right now, i would take a picture of how i did it.

how safe would a no-filter velocity stack be for daily driving, if its in an enclosed box?

I ran a ITB set-up with no filters and no problems for a long time.
I wouldnt see why it wouldnt work...

I may just put a foam filter around the opening if it bothers me too much.

Wow, I never knew the arc boxes had 2 filters. Bump to see how this turned out. I think I may try to make something like this this weekend.
