Need help fabricating hydro shield for CAI
I have a 2000 civic coupe and in the spring I am putting on my AEM cold air intake. I have the splash guard and fender liner but wanted to fabricate some sort of shield to attach somewhere near the filter so I can have that much more insurance against water meeting my filter. I have access to welders, sheet metal, and pretty much anything else you would find in an auto shop.
I tried using the search and couldnt find much for cold air intakes so was wondering if anyone could give some suggestions.
(PS please stick to the topic of this thread, dont start telling me about short rams and velocity stacks, i already have the aem cai and i want to use it)

I really don't understand the question. I understand that you want something to block the intake of water but if you have access to all this equipment then that is the hold up? You have no idea what one should look like? How to start? Design skills limited? What? Get a pencil and paper and start sketching something up.
lol I do have the dryflow pre filter>
and grumblemarc I was hoping some people would share their own designs or provide images to other designs.

The only solution is to put the filter in a box and mount it up high. Then run some tubing down to the cold air source.
If you install a CAI, you are installing an air intake tube low down by the bumper and also water. Just avoid driving through gigantic pools of water that are 1ft deep and you will be okay.

i was thinking about putting the filter in a box down low where the CAI will sit and just have an air inlet tube coming out of it. any thoughts? will this destroy any performance gains the CAI is giving me?
you are better off leaving it open...if you keep the down low location, it will always be suseptable to water, only difference the box will make is that the water will stay in the box and be sucked up by the filter that much easier. avoid large puddles, and if you do happen to hit one, get off the gas for a few seconds to ensure the water has fallen. it is practically impossible to avoid "some" water with the filter that low, but "some" doesn't hurt it like "alot" does
if your really trying to avoid water, cut the pipe and keep the filter high, and maybe build 3 walls around the filter to act as an air-dam
