There is a Metal Supermarket two miles away from me. They have pretty much any metal/size/shape you'd need and if not they'll order it for you. Their prices are by the foot but if you need 37" of 1" steel round stock they'll cut if for you and charge you for exactly 37", that way you pay for only what you need.
