manifold question
Is it common for SS log manifolds to crack, and cause more damage to the actual pieces of pipe that were used to make it? I saw a manifold that had cracked along the turbo flange and the cracks went parallel with the head flange and continued all the way across both 90s. I know that weld failure could be a possible cause around the flange, but the cracks continued into the schedule 10 pipe about 1.5" from the butt welds connecting the 90s to the Ts. Could this be from the downpipe striking the ground, and could this be something that could be repaired.
your going to see cracking like that if there is a ton of vibration. down pipe hitting the ground will do it too. sch 10 for a log kinda sucks. i would have used sch 40. whole point of a log is to last and be simple. its an extra $10 to make it out of sch 40.
Like the other poster said. But a bad tune, no flex and harsh driving conditions could crack a Cast manifold just as easily Im sure. But enough rambling. Yes, its rare but will and can happen in the right conditions.
