made a welding table
always wanted to build something dedicated to welding/fab. just went and picked up about 400lbs worth of steel and went at it.
here are the results:
4x6' sheet of 5/16" hot rolled steel on 2x2 14g box tubing and 3.25" casters

when you're not strong enough to lift something this size/weight call your brain for help :D
its not 100% finished yet, going to tie in the legs tomorrow when i buy some more box tubing and brace it.

That's not a very sturdy design.. I'd add some material connecting at least the 2 rear legs together.. What you should do is weld a piece connecting the legs together.. Kinda hard to explain but it would be very simple to do. Pick a side of the table to call the front so you can kinda offset the cross bars allowing you to still have some leg room. Then throw a thin sheet down and tack it and wallah, you have a lower shelf.

about 400 lbs for the sheet/tubing.
the sheet i got a t drop price for 45 cents/lb tubing was 1.30/ft i think
all in all it was 250 bucks with casters and i also got aluminum and SS hanger rod 12ft each
not too bad.

Eugene, put a brace down the middle length wise just under the table top too. We ruined a *thicker* table top a couple weeks back hot forming (aka beating the hell out of something with heat) that could have easily been prevented if we had properly braced it under the table surface.
