Default Looking for Plasma Cutter / Tig Welder, Possibly a two in one unit.

Just kinda examining my options. I really like the miller stuff but the price is definatly gonna be tuff if i go that route.

Requirements:
Must be able to cut 3/8 inch steel without any problems
Must be able to Tig stainless & aluminum 1/4 inch

Any suggestions welcome. I'm pretty much clueless as to what i want.

Thanks

This may be news to me, but does such a machine even exist?

Otherwise, I'd look at the Miller Dynasty (inverter) for a small tig that will do both steel and aluminum, and there are a wide selection of plasma cutters out there..

I have never used their products and have no idea about their quality, but those are websites to companies that sell Plasma cutter/ACDC welder combo. It's chinese stuff. If you're fine with that, I'd recomend you research their track record before buying them. Thought I'd throw it out there anyway. I don't think any reputable companies that are based in North America make a combo unit such as the one you want.

Personally, I'd recomend buying a used brand name AC/DC welder (square way or inverter) with a water cooled torch setup. And a plasma cutter separetly.

ps: If you don't know how to tig, I'd recomend you take a class from a community college if that's available to you. In the end it will save you a lot of time, money, frustration, and answer all of your questions. You'll be a better welder a lot quicker.

To GTAW 1/4" aluminum you're gonna need something with some serious power. How much are you looking to spend?

well guys after doing some research and looking at the suggested 2 in 1 options, i decided to go with seperate units.

I picked up a Miller Spectrum 375 for about $750 slightly used

Now i'm gonna start hunting for a good deal on a Miller Tig.
I really like the Dynasty 200 DX, but i'm gonna have to hold off until i can afford it or i find a good killer deal on one. Until then, i'll be sticking with my Mig welder.

thanks for the help guys.
