Default An Introduction

As some of you can see there isn't much repesentation on here from the forum sponsor. Well now there is - I'm Jay, and I've been on the HT board for a while, just as another name.

I'm here to help you out with any of the product you may have from Vibrant, and maybe some guidance if you need it.

I was offered a positon at Vibrant Performance for design and technical assistance. I've been doing automotive fabrication for a decent amount of time also, my resume touches on some notable experiences in motorsport (F1,Dakar). Some of you may recognise my work here too:

I'm always on HT, as I see many talented people pass through here. Its a good place to compare skill. Look here for any new product from us coming down the line.

Don't hesitate to pop a question either.

I remember seeing your stuff a while back, seems like at least a year or two ago, maybe longer, were you working for Vibrant then? I kinda thought you had your own shop but the details are hazy.

They were made from 303 instead of 304.

Out of curiosity what do the wastegate mufflers look like in real life/installed. I dont like doing recirculated dumps and if these things actually quiet down the noise a lot I would like to try them out.

3M Scotchbrite FTW. You can buy it in rolls that fit onto your bench grinder. We may be carrying items like this come spring.

As for the 02 fitting issue - I have noticed it in the past. The issue wasn't with the material grade. We are awaiting a new batch that will not sink during the welding process. Cosmetically the current ones aren't the best I know. We will remedy the issue. I do find the 1188 saddle bung does weld nice though as an alternative.

I'll check into the status of the wastegate muffler program. We haven't listed it as a current product in the 10-11' cataloge. I personally haven't used it on anything I've built.

I've always had a contact with Vibrant though the last ~5 yrs. It was about that long ago I got too overwhelmed with fab work to continue with my own shop, which started up around y2k. From there I worked with JRP for a while, up till this past sept, scince 2006. I took an attidude from then on get further into motorsport fabrication and parts design/development, I'm always striving for that bit extra.

I won't go into current Vibrant projects. But it goes a lot further than just tubing.

I'm here to help all of you, don't hesitate to pop a question. We will be at SEMA booth 24843 if any of you attend.

What size tubing are 1188 radiused for? 2.5", 3"?

Lol, I'm sure it was magic then
They were 303, I tested them
Its a pretty common mistake, material suppliers send out 303 in place of 304 all the time, the added sulphur content is what makes it so easy to machine, but so lousy to weld.

Ah I see, I've seen pictures from JRP before, that is what I was thinking of.

Dave, im not sure what you are refering to as magic, but again we didn't find the grade of stainless to be the issue. The main concern is that we correct the problem.

Aaron, all that needs to be said is that I ended on good terms with JRP.

It was a joke. Anyways the grade was the issue, at least in the batch I received. I used to buy lots of these from you guys, now we machine them in house. I've had my suppliers try to send me 303 before, it happens. The only thing you can do to correct the problem is to ensure the material is 304 and specifically the orgin of the material, most offshore stainless is pretty shitty, and even then sometimes they send you stuff with bogus material certs saying its 304l, when its not
If you guys need a new supplier for the part let me know, we do production stainless machining and might be able to offer you a solution, I can also radius them for different tube sizes so they sit like a saddle flange

Great work, Jay!

Being a forum sponsor and even a sponsor at this years and past Outlaw race is awesome and I appreciate it, but why no HT discount? I'm sure quite a bit of your business comes from places like this....

I've used Vibrant over the years and have had nothing but success.
