I am fabricating an engine mount (cause mine was ripped out from too much vtec). Here is my first mock up. What do you think of the design? Please tell me how I can improve on this. And any suggestions to get it at the correct height so the engine sits properly?

you would probably be better off going ot a junk yard and cutting off the oem mount that you need. weld every spot where it contacts the frame of the car. if you are hell bent on making your own mount you need to add some support vertically and attached to the frame rail. if you dont all the stress will be on your welds and nothing else. look at the oem design and try and replicate it.

Weld another piece on each side of the frame rail to make an L shape.

yes! right there. Without any support there the bracket will want to tilt towards the transmission.

Roger. Plan on adding that.

Progress, tacked up.

Going to mark it up, take it off, drill holes, then weld it all up and add supports
