You can bitch about it all you like, but the bottom line is that it is not against TOS unless they post prices or links.

There are at least a dozen other companies that do this on H-T. It has never really bothered me.

That's a ******* nice header there, but daym, how much does that cost.

Maybe its just me, but ever since you got on this board, your soul purpose was to promote your company and that's it. Ok, yes burns makes some really nice ****. But its nothing so crazy albeit iconel and some titanium pieces, that guys on here cant make themselves. Don't act like "burns" is the only way to go, and you all must buy our collectors or your whips will be slow....

This forum is about welding and fabing your own stuff together, so you can save money, make a little money, and say, "look, i made this myself, it was fun/cool to make, it works good, and it saved me a shitload of money.

Its not about shameless promotion about your company that overprices everything it sells.

I can't even imagine what that header would cost....

To put it bluntly...i don't think i speak for myself when i say this...your a ****** toolbag...

The least you can do is become a sponsor and support this forum while helping out your company. Then you won't have to spam all the sections about "awesome new products that add + 15whp, but its a secret and im trying to create a buzz for my company and advertise for free..."</TD></TR></TABLE>

Easy there tiger, casey is a great guy who's offered help to many people on this board. You really can't knock someone because they're used to a higher level of quality than others. The only time casey "promotes" burns or even brings them up (aside from posting some of their more interesting pieces) is when someone asks a question about design or performance. Bottom line is that Burns does make killer products that make proven gains continually, he's never said people wont make power without using a burns collector, just that in many cases it will help them make more power. You can't blame the guy for being rightfully passionate about his product. And everyone hates on him for sometimes giving price quotes but at the same time you're up there asking "Damn, how much does that cost?"

As for the group of people who think he's being a dick when he doesn't give cut angles or bend degrees might not grasp the reality that is performance part production. Making custom headers might be simple, making almost anything is simple, but designing it more often than not is not so simple. Handing out radius numbers and exact lengths goes a little beyond "friendly information" in some cases. Some people don't mind, others do; that's life.

I understand that this is the "fab" forum, but from what I can gather is it's just as much a place to showcase work as it is for Q&A.

do you know what a cnc bender costs? a swaging machine? die sets for either?

some of us will work our ENTIRE LIVES and not make the money to pay for their equipment, let alone payroll, buildings, taxes, insurance...

i could weld ten years ago. i might never be able to make a collector as good as what i could buy from them for a fraction of a percent of the cost of machinery they have invested. if his products help just one backyard fabricator get some extra ponies out of his project... tell me, who is he harming?

so burns makes a profit. is it at YOUR expense? this is a free country. the people who do business with them, do so by mutual consent. to the buyer, the product is of greater value than the money exchanged for it. there are a few businesses whoring HT that i read customer complaints about. burns isnt one of them.

anyone who cannot see this value, hasnt tried to make the same quality pieces yet.

How do you weld it. I heard for titanium you need a special pressurized room

Well, not pressurized...

The BEST method is to have a cabinet similar to a sandblasting cabinet, that is sealed up and filled with Argon.

Titanium will burn if you just try and weld it as you would stainless or carbon steel. And I mean BURN.. it will go up in flames until there is nothing but dust.

There are other ways to do it, but it's something that really requires special precautions. One small slip-up and your part will burn to ashes... and maybe even your house and show with it.

You should see Magnessium burn it burns so hot you can't look at it and the only way to smother it is to cover it with something that absolutly will not burn like floor dry. I burn't a lathe to the ground when the chips caught on fire. I also got some intresting eye burns from the light. Just like staring at a welder.

i was just gonna mention that. Magnesium is a weird metal, they used to use it in Formula cars all the time, for transmission cases and stuff. And its weird because the metal has to chip before it will ignite. I saw something on TV where a car had a Mag head or something, and it caught on fire; it burnt clean through the block, pistons, everything, right to the ground.

But when used properly, magnesium has some great characteristics that can come out great in certain applications.

I remember when we got to burn it in chem class... ooo the pretty white lights.....

You can't host them through Burns' site? They don't like you using bandwidth for such trivial things?

Cool looking header for sure. Just one question- why?

By the time the EGTs get hot enough to require Inco the pistons will have melted into the oil pan.

What series of Inco is this piece anyway?

Ish474- what kind of tooling are using to cut your inconel? Are you turning or milling? I might have some solutions for you.

Oh- and to whomever said "... govt blah blah to buy inconel..." well, you don't need any special permits, etc. You just shell out your $22/lb and they ship it right to you.

Regards,
Brandon (&lt;- works with inconel every day)

Brandon you always ask such good questions!!!!

Why inconel quite simple, the inconel we most commonly use is .035/.028, we use inconel in extreme applications where lightweight and durability is desired. The particular grade of inconel we work with most often is 625.

We use a band saw for our inconel and dont have any trouble but if you do have some better ideas we are always open to suggestions
