Default Fuel pump mount

Thought this might be the best place to show off my new design. Pretty much just completed machining this the other day. It is a mounting bracket for my waterman mechanical fuel pump. I know I remember seeing someone else on here was doing one for a honda, so I thought I would share my creation.

I have some new pictures, just havn't uploaded them yet, had to reformat my computar.

Let me know what you guys think!

Looks pretty good. Whats the black insert made of?

Black insert is rubber to absorb any harmonic vibrations. So essentially the pump shaft is not rigidly coupled to the cam shaft.

is the rubber part made by Lovejoy? those are very common in industrial applications and work well. good idea

yessir! I was going to use the Lovejoy couplings, but they really wouldn't work out for the way I planned on implementing it. So I just used their elastomeric spider, and designed around it. Made all the parts on my mill.

I see.

your machine work looks really nice. I'm not sure I would have been able to resist doing a full polish on the cross piece though...its begging for it.

Coupling is aluminum, and weighs next to nothing. That one looks a bit rough from handling it alot (its got my grimey finger prints all over it). I was going to offer in machined finish (which is damned near mirror, just small polishing would clean it up nice) or in anodized black, with my logo cut in after its anodized.

That pump flows 6.8 gallons per minute. Great for feeding 10 1600cc/min injectors with methanol. Will also have no problems running an 80 psi base. It also draws 0 amps from my battery. So now I can ditch the alternator, and have the biggest power drain, be the ECU/dash.

but instead of current draw, u now have extra rotating resistance.

I guess the main advantage would be the really high flow pump.

What does that pump cost?

What would the whole setup cost?

don't forget the alternator was rotating resistance...

better tune that battery correction offset curve or your car is going to run like **** w/out an alternator!

Very nice job! Mechanical fuel pump is the only way to go with an alcohol race car! We run 100psi base fuel pressure and 12 1600cc injectors off of that same pump.

i am not sure, but i am willing to bet the extra rotational resistance is not going to be much of an issue for a motor running 10 1600cc injectors @ 80psi

Minor details You got my jist. Yeah a loaded up alternator will create plenty of drag on the motor too.

Yeah Stephanie's car has a similar setup, although my drive mechanism is a bit different. This is the same pump John Shepherd is running 7.70's with, and as far as I know he is feeding 10x 1600cc/min injectors.

Thanks for the comments guys! I appreciate it, I have put alot of hard work into designing and machining this so far.

It shows that time and effort went into that.

Very, very nicely done.

.... I need a mill now. lol
