DIY: Coating a header.
I have a mild steel header I want to coat inside out, before I contact Jet Hot and companies a like is there a way i can do it my self? The outside seems like it wont be too hard, but how to do the inside?
Thanks.
Thanks.
for the price, it would probably just be easier to send it somewhere that offers a gaurantee, that way if it ever cracks or anything, you could send it back
im normally all for diy projects; but just stating my opinion, if you go ahead with it, good luck with the project

It depends on who you talk to. Some companies like Jet-Hot I believe will coat the inside. Others, such as Swain-Tech which uses a much thicker ceramic coating, say that it is unnecessary and often not possible to prep the inside surfaces for proper adhesion.
I want to perform a test on identical manifolds, coated by different companies, on a dyno to see differences in temperature over time. Hopefully I can get a TIG welder soon and get started on this.

I would love to see the same manifold on the same car with both in and out coated and just outside. I never try and coat in further than I was able to sandblast when I do manifolds. Big chunks of coating going through your turbine wheel, o2 sensors and cat doesnt seem like a good idea.
