Custom radiator for my subaru
So im in the process of rebuilding and replacing just about everything in the car. Whether it be oem or something I've already built for it. Basically tired of my car lookng like crap because it never gets attention and when it does im so tired from building everyone elses stuff that when I finally get to my own car I only have about 10% to give to it. So I'm finally giving it some real attention. One of the parts im building is a custom radiator setup which is just about done and ready for welding. But i forgot about the least important part (drain fitting) so I need to make that. Everything was made in Solidworks.........Core is from a big custom radiator supplier in the US, endtanks are 1/8" lasered and cnc bent aluminum. Filler neck is all machined, I also designed inlets and outlets that I machined as well. I'll be welding all the fittings from the inside for a nice clean sleek look. Will be anodized black after final welding. On to pics-

I got a core from HOWE radiator but they have some galvanized coating on them that sucks to try and clean off not to mention they are the crimp style cores so you have to cut the teeth off to have a welding surface. A rally team that i crew for was sponsored by Mishimoto for the xgames i got to talking to the owner and hopefully he comes through with selling cores.
all welded up for awhile just havent brought the camera down to the shop. but will probably do it tomorrow. came out nice with all the welding done from the inside for all the fittings.
so i was only supposed to redo my radiator and intercooler with a simple setup as well as redo my turbo setup and some other things. A relatively simple refresh.......well after I got done with some side work over the weekend I got bored and was alone in the shop with no one to tell me this was a bad idea. And...this is the result of my mayhem-

I still need to weld in a piece of tube to replace the lower radiator support i cut out, and also position and mount the radiator where i want it, as the original mounting wont work as ive completely deviated from that original plan.
Poor planning on how much material I needed to finish the car this weekend, this is pretty much where Im stuck at right now, would have been nice to finish this weekend and sent everything off to anodizing.
Not sure what I want to do with the intercooler piping. The intercooler and radiator and getting anodized black and I might do the same with the charge piping or keep the satin/brushed finish and get it clear powder coated or anodized to keep it looking nice. Any ideas?

If you are going to anodise the parts then your choice of filler wire you have used will be critical.
If you have used 5356 then the welds will anodise ok, but if you have used 4043/4047 then your welds "will" anodise black regardless of what colour anodising you are trying to achieve.

We always teach that if it gets over 150F, use 4043, or 5554. That is the only decent high-temp 5000 series rod I am aware of.
Always remember, keep a very short arc with 5356 too.
