I believe that padding is designed for an impact with a helmet only. It won't protect your exposed head in an impact much.

Aside from the fact that your bare head can hit metal bars in an accident. I'm sure that would be real safe

padding will not help much it a street car. there is alot of force in a car accident. the padding my feel like it would protect your head but the bars will split your head all the same. adn the cage makes the amount of space in the car you can move be for you hit something much smaller.

Yeah, but what would you rather hit your head on: 2mm of ABS plastic covering a steel b-pillar or 20mm or high density foam covering a steel tube?

Looks like a very well done job. It also leaves a lot of room for additions if you intended to add gussets or tie it more into the chassis.
