Default CNC Plasma Table issues

Won't cut perfectly straight. 54ipm/60-70amps/70-75psi for 3/8" CRS

Cutting circles, it will come out kinda funny shaped on the other end, i.e. not perpendicular. Cutting squares, same thing. Any thoughts?

sounds like he's saying that the cuts arent perpendicular to the surface plane of the material.

I remember when I was installing mine, it said something about testing to see if it cuts rigth, if not you had to play with some setting. I will dig up the paper tomorrow.

hypertherm plasma, i dont know which model right now. PlasmaCam table. PasmaCam software sucks by the way

Part of the cut IS perpendicular, then it will change the angle of the kerf after it makes a turn. Very strange. Consumables are fine, and aren't being eaten up when this happens. We have altered speed, air flow, amperage, and air flow by far plays the biggest role. We do have a swamp cooler blowing in the room, which i didnt think was an issue, but it may as well be. I dont have pictures right now sorry.

There's a good chance that your plasma cutter can't do 3/8" in a single pass, thats a hell of a cut for most of these "portable" plasma cutters.. I'd check and see exactly which model plasma you have..

My Miller Spectrum 375 would laugh at me if I attempted that cut..

Jimmy, i dont know much about cnc plasma cutting or plasma cutting in general but it kinda sounds like the servo motors controlling the movement are not in sync with each other, or something like that. I crashed the head on my machine pretty hard once and it knocked the ball screw out of alinement cuasing it to cut circles that where not perfectly round like you descirbed. any ways hope you get fixed. Tom

Ive had the same problem for time to time and its quite frustrating. try putting the ground directly on the piece and not on the table grate. other than that double check all other parameters.

btw the software does not suck.

I've never used a plasma table so this is a bit of a shot in the dark .... Is your torch crooked? I know this was a major problem for a few of the local guys with the same setup. I ended up making them a special collar that holds the torch. According to the one guy it makes changing tips painless now and he never has to worry about having the torch aligned right anymore. Sounds like it could be related.

Thanks Tom, we looked at the setup and we found that the motors were out of alignment, but re zeroing the motors was a mouse click away once it was manually set to 0,0,0. As far as keeping the torch perpendicular, that is a good point, however the direction of the angle was never consistent, it would very left, right, side to side, etc.

We are still messing around with it, but i'll keep you guys updated.
