I could sharpen a tungsten 10 times over in the time that takes, and if you goof up as much as i did when first started out, you'd prolly lose a good couple of hours a day doing it lol

Honestly, stick it in the end of a drill and run it across the belt sander, gets the job done in like 10 seconds plus you end up with a nice swirl pattern around the tip. I was told by some old timers that the swirl helps the gas flow around the tungsten.

Gas flow around the tungsten? More like a unstable arc. You want nice straight lines if any ground facing the point. Not swirls. Just saying

It sucks ***, I have it and it was a waste of 35.00 (got it from my snap on guy), like started above a drill and a belt sander works wonders, just go slow at at end.

If you are going to use this stuff to prevent contamination of the tungsten for aerospace welding or similar, you probably already have one of these:

and for everything else a simple grinding wheel is fine (tungsten only!)

I've been using a drill for years except on the really small stuff. Never had an issue with an unstable arc...
I use 180 grit or higher followed by some scotch-brite. I acutually end up with a very smooth arc.
Obviously quality tungsten plays a significant role though. Shitty tungsten = shitty tungsten now matter how it's ground.

I could sharpen a tungsten before you could load it into a drill. I tried something similar to chem sharp. It was rubbish.

You probably could.... lol

... Because I sharpen about 30-40 at a time. I buy a pack. Cut each piece into about 2.5'' long pieces. Then sharpen both ends. I found this to be a huge time saver on production work. For me anyway.

Plus, I'm pretty picky when it comes to sharpening my tungsten.

i bought that crap, and still have it. it really sucks, horrible crap and should never be sold. any decent guy working at a counter should have told me it was crap. with a new tungsten, youd have to sit there for like half an hour before it was sharp. i really see absolutley NO USE at all for this ****.

i used it like 3 or 4 times, and still have it. ill sell it to any of you here for 5$ plus shipping. if you dip the tungsten into the pool and get it all contaminated, this powder **** doesnt work at all. you have to break off the tip and begin the slow process. not to mention you contaminate the tungsten when you ground it on your work bench and floor the pedal.

terrible ****......

id like to add that i think it contaminates the tungsten when you heat it cherry red without any argon flowing on it. i hate this **** so much. i am pissed i wasted a few days, 30$ and a whole tungsten rod on it trying to convince myself it wasnt a horrible waste of money.

-end rant
