hey guys, i dont know if this is the right forum for this but my guess it is, im currently building a race kart out of some 4130 chrome moly, im kind of having trouble viewing how the rear axle would spin, like how the bearings sit in and things. im also having trouble remembering how i made some kingpins for the front, i actual did kind of the same thing in a super mileage class, we machined out some king pins and the such for the front wheels and i dont remember how i did it, and i dont have access to that car anymore, so if anyone has any pics of how the front tires are set up and how the rear axle is set up i would greatly apreciate it, thanks guys

 

the rear axle sits in small bearing carrier type things which are welded to the outer frame rails. then there are aluminum collars which hold the axle from moving side to side. its been awhile since ive looked at the rear of my cart...

yeah, you can see the brackets that you need in that last picture. you can try contacting jr. dragster companies as well, as they use the same bracketry. motivational tubing offers just the brackets for a couple bucks a piece I think. they are great people and are in kansas. http://www.motivationaltubing.com

thanks alot for the info guys, what motor do you guys recomend? i wanna use a motor out of a crotch rocket, this isnt going to be a kart to race professionaly or anything just something badass to **** the neighbors off and have some fun im just curious what type of motors these things usually use

 

well there are dozens of motors that karts typically use. Just depend are you looking for a shifter cart? if so typical use is 125cc and 80cc. Many street bike engines have been used and will make a fun cart to rip around on around your neighborhood.

i second that note !! it should be pretty easy to find a 125 or 250 setup. they are easy enough to build too.

forget the streetbike engine, you'll shoot your eye out kid !!

 

In our FSAE car at school we used a Honda CBR 600 F4i. It was a lot of fun even with all the limits/restrictions put on us by the rule book. I would recommend going with a bigger engine, if your frame and design can handle it.

You can use a banshee rear axle setup if you want. That's how a freind of mine did his. Has a 600 cbr motor.
