Default Certification

Can you guys point me in the right direction as far as certification is concerned. I've been snooping around the AWS website but the info on there isn't all that clear.

What do the tests consist of for MIG? TIG?

Thanks all help is greatly appreciated.

It all depends on how thick you want to go.
With MIG you will probably have to make some V-grooves and fill them, then bend them, and you will be certified for anything under that thickness.
I haven't really done much with TIG certification yet, but I can ask my instructor tomorrow.

Hey dude,
Even though im halfway round the world I cant imagine it being much different.

Most MIG and Arc(stick) was done on 12mm plate, with the Vee prep angle. Depending on the position you have to do a set number of runs like downhand was, Root Pass, Fill, 2 Small capping stringers on top and then backgouge it and do another run on the back.

Stainless TIG ticket was to butt weld a 100mm dia. pipe and do a 'T' pipe using 100 and 75mm pipe.

Ali TIG was a 280mm long fillet.

Everything was sent away to an Xray lab and cut up, bent, broken, xrayed, folded, squashed, burnt, spat at etc etc etc...

EDIT: We could also do the ASME9 pressure pipe if we wanted using either TIG and Arc or just Arc...
