Pick it up and flip it over, you can see there is space to flow under and around the plates, I put a little brake clean in there and swish it around, then blow it out with the compressor.

I gave that one away to a friend, I'll be making a new one for my car before spring time, I have a couple of new designs in mind. I will either use a petcock or drain via the exhaust and a slash-cut bung.

First off let me say nice work on the replies pics. Secondly I'm a noob. I ordered a greddy catch 12mm catch can and just got it yesterday and haven't put it in yet. Correct me if I'm wrong but a catch can is designed to catch the access pressure and relieves the pressure from your head yes? Instead of your pistons burning up the oil?

downest, on the fourth pic of your baffling, doesn't that last baffle before your filter have to be vented at the top like the first baffle? once your oil level reaches the bottom of that second baffle, it'll seal your "vent" won't it?

Kind of. There is a little space around the sides of the plates, so even the hole in the first plate isn't necessary. I wasn't sure what was going to work so I guessed, it worked great for me while I had it in my car.

oh, yeah, i didn't see that at first. so the baffles are narrower than the can. so it can vent around the baffles. cool.

Catch can is to catch oil that gets blown there from piston blow-by. The tube on the head acts as an inlet to allow air to flow into the block as the pressure in the block pushes the oil out the vent tubes and therefore into your catchcan...although, a well designed system will allow it to drainback into the block. See theoldone.com...

Draining back to the block has nothing to do with good design, it's an option in the design. Some people like it to drain back like factory, personally I don't. The next catch can I make for my car and the one I make for our other car here will drain via a valve and a slash cut bung in the exhaust.

There are TONS of threads and debates about catch cans on here, they are linked IIRC in the all motor and forced induction forums. The stock system is *supposed to* take the air from the valve cover, but most people will find, especially with boosted and higher compression engines, that it comes out all avalable holes. My motor put out a lot running it up to 10k regularly.
