Another bracing question
We have a couple ideas,but I'm interested in hearing other ideas on how you'd brace this wastegate. With all due respect,no day dreamers please. I'm interested in hearing expirienced fabricators thoughts.


Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but I'm curious so I have to ask. On slip connector style manifolds, should you brace the turbo so the weight is held on the brace but the brace can still move with the thermal expansion of the tubes? Or should the turbo be braced solid to the motor and allow the slip connections to take up the thermal expansion movement?
On solid manifolds, it seems pretty straight forward, build a brace that will support the weight but allow movement in several directions. Seems like if you did that with a slip connector manifold, the turbo would move around a considerable amount and may damage the slip connectors?
For suggestions on that manifold, I have no idea. It looks like the wastegate tubes are welded directly to the secondaries with no place for thermal expansion joints? If that's the case, maybe you could use a link from low on the compressor cover to the wastegate? That seems like it would allow for expansion of the wastegate tubes while still supporting the weight of the wastegate. It would probably put a torque moment on the wastegate tube to secondaries welds though? Although if the rod came from low on the compressor cover, the rod would be fairly long and the arc length would probably be low enough to minimize that torque moment? I don't know. Maybe add some slip connectors in there on the wastegate tubes and brace it solid to the existing support?
Looks like a pretty nasty manifold. Did you use any engine simulation software to predict the optimal runner diameters and lengths?

I think we're going to do somethign similar,but off the compressor housing. I just want to check the bolt spacing of this temporary one compared to the one I'll wind up with.
