Default welding 1/16 plate to Honda body

Total noob question but how does everyone weld in plate to Honda body's? My fab guy is having issues blowing through. He finally got it nailed down but the amount of heat for the plate is too much for the body. Spent alot of time going back and letting it cool down then would make a solid pass. The floor is quite thin.

We've cleaned up the coating and galvinizing as best we can and welding a 1/16 plate down inside the body is pretty difficult.

Building pads for roll cage.

Any hints tricks? Thanks

Do not use flux wire. Do not use straight co2.
Use .023 wire and c25 gas.
Your guy doesn't know what he is doing. Plain and simple.
Get a weld spoon or a piece of copper and put it on the back side to absorbe heat. Or like you should do is stitch weld it. Don't run a stringer on a body panel. Less warpage, less blow throughs.

Are you even allowed to use .062 for base plates?

Yea that plate is way to thing. No rule book i know of will allow that and why the hell are you using galvanized plate for a rollcage! Dude dosen't have a clue what he is doing. Grab some pre cut 6 x6 .125" plates from a metal supply and start over. What your building sounds sketchy at best. Get the machine set properly with solid wire and gas. You have to focus the wire on the base plate and drag the puddle over so it lands on the body. A good welder can put floor plates in one pass without having to stich weld anything. Just have to dial in the machine.

sorry yeah, 1/8 .125. I don't know what I'm talking about. Good stuff. I'll bring it up with him. Also not galv plate, was saying the body steel is coated somewhat?

oh ok lol The body is always nasty to weld to. Even when you have the inside prepped you end up cooking the undercoating and crap of the underside of the chassis.

Also it doesn't hurt to put a very small pass on it and do a second one on top. It helps because your welding on top of filler and it's easier to get a nice pass on it. I'll see if i can dig up a pic

Pic sucks lol but hear ya go!
