Default 3D Scanning

Was sent this link by one of the engineers that I work with.

https://www2.nextengine.com/indexSecure.htm

Anyone here ever do 3D scanning of car parts? I wonder how accurate this scanning is as far as locating critical control surfaces and dimensions. This scanner is also under $3k. Hmmmm........I got a tax return coming here pretty soon.

It says its accurate with in +/-.005 in, so it would work for most parts.

3000 is a tiny price tag compared to the better machines, lol.

we have one at work. not that brand, I'll check what it is tomorrow. It sucks. everything has to be painted white, although we have had some success with "painting" stuff with talcum powder in alcohol. If you need a basic shape, it will get you going, but don't think you can scan something complex, like your cell phone, and then just go to town. you'll have to clean it up in solidworks or whatever you use.

also the one you linked is shown next to a pen. make sure the car part you want to scan will fit in the scanner bed.
