Default Wheels spin while in neutral

So the other day I was changing my oil and had the front of my car on jackstands. When I started the car, I noticed that the front wheels were spinning, even while the transmission was in neutral. But once I stepped on the brakes and let go, the remaining sticking from the calipers kept the wheels from moving. Is this normal or no?

Normal, the transmission gears are always meshed, just the syncros are not engaged. The input shaft gears moving, pushes the fluid, and the fluid actualy can turn the output gears, and with no resistance on the wheels and differential they can turn. Like you said just enough drag on the brake pads was enough to stop them.

If its up in the air and he is out of the car, the clutch is engaged.

Think I got this thread mixed up with one I read earlier where the clutch was disengaged. Oops-
