Default Transmission pb with P0730 engine check code

Hi:
I have -
-- Honda Accord 2000 LX Auto Transmission
-- 115k Miles
-- Bay area, California

When my car was at 101k, it started slipping in D1-D2 and I checked with my mechanic (arco) and he suggested that I need to replace my tranny and would cost me $2800. But I keep using it and didn't decide since I was unable to decide based on resale value of the car itself is 3-4k.

Do you think replacing transmission at 115k is worth? Is $2800 the cheapest I can get to replace a rebuilt tranny in Bayarea? I checked with dealer and he told me that it cost $3500. Hence I am looking for pointers for a reliable cheap mechanic to replace the tranny if I decided to do.

Thanks in advance

If the rest of the car is in good condition it is worth fixing. See what your mechanic will charge for the install labor and I will PM you with a Honda-Tech discounted price for a remanufactured transmission.
