Ok, I'm getting a trans. off one of my friends and the 5th gear is a problem he says. It's b16 hydro out of a 99-00 civic si. All the other gears work fine. Has no problem downshifting to any of the other gears. Upshifting to 5th is a bit tricky. If you go too fast it'll grind and you have to kind of look for 5th gear to go in, but it is there. Does this sound like a syncro problem??

yes. More than likely its the synchro spring though. I have never understood how people mess up their 5th gears. Just take the case apart to find out

 

most likely a synchro and/or spring.

 

It there a pop out if its in fifth at low rpms?

 

known issue with 5 gear on the B16 tranny, even a TSB rom Honda about it.
