quick question on the s80 transmission.
i was reading a site saying s80 was on the ls and gsr motor but the ls model had longer gears... if thats true how can u tell if its a gsr or an ls? how can u tell if its usdm or jdm?

im planning to swoop one up. what do i need to look at for problems with it?

the only way u can tell if its a gsr or ls tranny i believe is the rpm your in when on 5th gear going 60 miles per hour if its in the low 3k i believe its a ls if its in the mid to higer 3k its usually a gsr and a b16 would be hi 3k low 4k something like that some usdm trannys come with no vin code on the ls or gsr in 94-95 I heard I have a 94 ls and it looks like a jdm one with no vin all it has is a sticker

 

If you take off the 14mm reverse idler bolt on the outside of the case you can identify it. Look down the hole with a light and see if there are small notches in the tip of the third gear. No notches is b16/itr, one notch is gsr and two notches is LS.
