Icon2 Problem with Acceleration

Hi,
I'm not exactly sure about my problem. I think it MAY have something to do with the drivetrain, but not exactly sure. Say I'm stopped at a red light. For some reason, when the accelerator is pressed to move forward, the car does nothing but sit there. I have to depress the accelerator a couple of times before the car will move forward. It's like something "catches". Can anyone help me out? It's an automatic transmission if that makes any difference.

when this happens can you hear the engine try to rev but it struggles/can't do anything?
or does it simply do absolutely nothing?
