hard to change gears - shift cable?

hard to change gears - shift cable?
Had the engine in my Prelude rebuilt, and since I've got it back I'm finding it difficult to shift gears.
Feels as though the 'spring' has gone out of it.
In other words it doesn't pull back into neutral- to change from second to third i have to physically manhandle the gearstick UP - RIGHT - UP.
Somone suggested that it could be the clip on the ends of my shift cable on their way out, but I'm having a bit of difficulty finding a replacement cable.
Any other suggestions?
