Default differential fluid change

Took my 2017 Pilot to Honda for a 15,000 mile oil change. The rep and then her boss recommended changing the front differential fluid every 15,000 miles for $150. What is the appropriate mileage for this service??

Front differential fluid is the transmission fluid.

Maybe they were talking about the transfer case fluid if you have an AWD.

Thanks for the info. I have AWD. Recommendations for fluid change is 60,000 for tranny and transfer case. 30,000 for rear differential fluid but is this overkill ?

15k is probably to early. The transfer case I would run at 30k to match the rear end. Only 0.5 liter of fluid in that thing and it lives right next to very hot exhaust components.

If you look at the Piloteers forum a lot of them get a code to change the rear diff at around 15k miles.

Better $150 than having to pay for a transmission replacement. Look at your owner’s manual and follow that. I would change it at 15K if you drive aggressively. I don’t know where you live but some dealers offer a discount.
