A 2003 CRV came into the shop with the complaint of "no reverse". Other than that the transmission seemed to be in good working order. Here's what was found upon teardown.




Anyone want to take a guess at how this happened?

 

wow.........dont know they were driving and jamed it in reverse? the shaft looks discolored are you replacing it also.

Wow, that is special. I'm somewhat surprised it works ok otherwise though, one would think at least some of those metal fragments would end up stuck in the valve body. My other question is, isn't reverse a straight cut gear? Or rather 3 straight cut gears. Its hard to tell from the angle but that looks like forward gear that got shredded.

 

I think you're right on that, i'll have to talk to the tech that worked on it again. I've had those pics for a month or 2 and may have gotten the story mixed up in that time. I still dont see how it's possible for a gear to get that hot, it looks like it melted.
