Default D-Series Interlock Differences/Compatibility?

I'm replacing the interlock in my S40 transmission and I picked up two today. Later I realized one was slightly different size. I'm not sure which is which, but one of them is from an S40 trans and the other is from an EF DX cable trans. Now the part number is 24430-PL3-010 for these, which superseded 24430-PL3-000. The Honda parts websites all have this same part number (-010) listed from 88-00. So, why the different size if the part number is the same for all these trannies? Can I still use the smaller one in the S40? My main question is really which interlocks are compatible with which transmissions?

Here are some pics of the differences. The smaller one looks smaller in width and height, and the space between the selector nubby and the claws is wider on the bigger one.
