clutch issue
I have a ACT 6 puck extreme and its been great for 15k miles and countless passes, last night i went to do a 3rd gear burn out and the slicks must not have been wet all the way around and it kinda bit, i felt it right away and pushed the clutch back in, but now it slips tiny fraction off the line, i can feel it when i launch. im getting ready to swap trannys and wonder if i ruined it or if its just got a smooth spot now and i can use a roloc disk to freshen up the flywheel and PP , or should i order a new clutch kit, if so does any one know if LSD motor sport clutches are as good as ACT? they claim to be as good, offer a warranty and are cheaper. i love my ACT but its just so expensive to replace. i posted this in the drag racing forum but after 22 + views no one had a clue.
you wont know much until you pull the trans and inspect the clutch. check the wear on the pres plate and flywheel surfaces and look to see if there are excessive hotspots on both. measure the thickness of the disk and see if there is excessive chunking of the friction surface. replace whatever doesn't pass inspection. act unsprung 6 pucks and flywheels are not very expensive. i have no experience with lsd clutches. third gear burnouts are pretty rough on a clutch. i'd stick to doing longer ones in 2nd gear.
"I warned you"...........but look at it as a good thing.
If you'd just put the GSR tranny on, 2 weeks later you'd be pulling it right back off. Sorta a blessing in disguise.
