Bent 3rd-4th shift fork? 99 Si
Well i went from 2nd to 3rd last night at redline and it did nothing but grind. It has never grinded once before this. Now every single time, no matter what rpm i put it in 3rd it grinds, also now it is really hard to get into 4th, and when in 4th its really hard to get out. Im guessing the 3rd to 4th shift fork is bent. Any other opinions?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

i doubt you bent a shift fork. synchros can be destroyed in one bad shift to the point where it grinds all the time. if it is grinding all the time no matter the rpm, could have broke the synchro spring and/or could also possibly be the sleeve mesh got trashed...could be the actual synchro. but seeing you are having a hard time getting into 4th now leads me toward thinking you damaged the 3/4 sleeve on that bad shift into 3rd. too much damage from that bad grind and now you got burrs on the 3rd side sleeve mesh and they are catching/binding in the hub splines...explains your 4th gear trouble.

Im pulling it out today and have a anther b16 trans to swap the parts from. So your saying im prolly only looking at swaping the 3rd/4th sleeve?

i'd say. i'm sure you have burrs and scarred hub splines...but there is a very slim chance the sleeve and hub might still be good. and check closely because if the synchro spring on 3rd isn't tore off, it might be ground flat. it should be round otherwise there isn't any pressure on the synchro (from the sleeve bumps going over the spring to the synchro) to slow the 3rd gear down on that shift.
if everything did look good then it would be the synchro friction side worn down too much or glazed friction cone on the gear.
