Automatic B18C1 swap? Please help
Before I start and ask my question, I just want to ask please don’t make this post one where you try to convince me to just swap my car to a manual. I’m pretty set on doing an automatic and I really need help. I know you guys will have a lot of legitimate reasons to say to me to swap it out to a manual, but I have two main reasons why I want to keep it an automatic:
Now that that’s out of the way, my question is “is it possible to swap in a b18c1 into my 1992 auto LS?” I’ve seen people do this on EK’s and they say there’s a lot of custom fabrication. But it should be just a straight up swap on the DA right since it did have a B series engine? Also, should I keep the LS tranny or try to go for another tranny? If so, which one would do? In my search, people were saying that there are automatic B18 tranny’s out there and also B16 ones but they say they are kind of rare. Is it worth the trouble of doing all that? Also what ECU should I use with the auto tranny?
My last question is will the auto tranny be able to withstand some power. I want to add some bolt ons and off the shelf stuff just to reach the 175-190 whp range, will the tranny be able to withstand this? If not, what should I do to strengthen it? Sorry if I asked a lot of questions but I figured might as well just make one thread and ask all my questions there. Thanks for all your guys’ help
- I’m not that great of a manual driver, I mean I can drive it, but I stall sometimes and I find it a hassle to always step on the clutch and what not.
- I live in the SF Bay Area where pretty much every road is a hill. Because of reason number 1, I don’t really feel comfortable and confident of myself to drive around a stick
