It is difficult to get my DC2 into 3rd gear when downshifting from 4th and in the cold weather only, it feels very notchy and will sometimes grind. Does not happen when weather is hot (or car is warm). No grinds or notchyness when shifting up through gears normally

trans fluid changed to honda MTF recently, would this be my 3rd gear synchro on its way out?

 

Yes, the synchro needs to be replaced. The selector sleeve and 3rd dog ring might also need to be replaced. Ditch the Honda MTF for Motul.
