Hello all. My transmission sort of hits a wall when trying to put it into 2nd gear under a real load. If im just driving around its perfectly fine, no grinding or anything of that nature. Im half tempted to just buy another tranny and get it over with. But does this seem to you guys like a bent shift fork or possibly something a little more serious. I plan on taking the tranny out of my car and inspecting it but i just wanted to get some opinions before i made the leap and purchased another tranny. Thanks for any input you may have.

not to bump a thread i just made...but i dont feel like editing my post. just so you know i wanted to make it clear its not the shift linkage. it did the same thing with two different sets of linkage and both of them i know to be good. also it seems as if the shifter wants to stay to the left if you push it over for 1st or 2nd gear. it doesnt want to go back towards the center and its a gsr tranny with lsd if that matters to any of you...

Oh and to the "d series tranny guru" its a powerglide transmission with a 3400 stall converter. any help you could give me as to why everytime i ratchet my car into second gear and it doesnt engage would be greatly appreciated
Broken shift pawl leaving it locked in low gear.
3400 stall had better be behind a HUGE BBC on the hose so it flashes to 4500-5000 rpm.
Careful what you ask for, I might have worked on one before. I'm not a young one at age 42.
Last RWD drag car I worked on had 632 CID with Big Chief heads, 300/300/400 nitrous setup, early 1990's Pro Stock chassis wasn't up to the task. Did manage a 6.8x @ 217 mph at Milan on a Eaton test day.
Launch on first stage, hit second stage before shifting the Lenco into second, grab third. if all is good grab 4th and hit the last stage.

Thing is, you've never cared to mention what tranny you are working on.

He's right Adam. You definitely need to give as much info as possible. It goes a long way.
An input shaft bearing missing bearings would cause issues though. Good to hear you probably got it taken care of.
