Default y7 to y8 tranny question

i am probly going to get flamed for this but wtf ever. ok so i have a 98civic cx tranny. longest effing tranny ever invented to my knowledge(i have no clue about transmissions) i will be doing a vtec head swap soon along with the im. but i really am more concerned about getting a shorter tranny first. would the y8 tranny be the way to go and if so how much and how hard would it be to do the swap? sorry for the exreamly noob question. in about 2 years i will have a turbo kit as well. but it still seems like the way that the y8 tranny is geared that it will work out with my turbo perfect almost.

yea, but if you have the gears laying around have fun with it besides had to replace input shaft bearing plus get to play around with gear combos longer gears just means more top end and shorter gears is just quicker acc.. it all depends on what you want

yeah last time i asked if u could swap gears like 4months ago they were like no and i was like really and they were like really. but apperently not. yeah im not sure if i should keep on doing little mods and then eventually a couple years from now go big for a turbo. or just keep saving and go with the big turbo first. but i would either want the zc tranny cause i heard they have really short gears, if not that then the y8. thanks for the replys.

yea cause if your getting ready for some power you gonna upgrade ur tranny anyways weather its si,ex or lx but its what u want... you should keep ur tranny you have on now it will even out depending on your turbo setup cause just go higher in mph with longer gears but yea you can switch gears if you wanted but good luck with your decision you make

no it doesnt.

They range in cost from about $150-250 depending on condition. The swap is a direct fit. If you've never done that sort of thing before, be prepared to spend about 2 full days doing it. It's very labor intensive.</TD></TR></TABLE>

why are you going to comment about it when you've never actually done it?<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by 0618turbocivic &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">yea cause if your getting ready for some power you gonna upgrade ur tranny anyways weather its si,ex or lx but its what u want... you should keep ur tranny you have on now it will even out depending on your turbo setup cause just go higher in mph with longer gears but yea you can switch gears if you wanted but good luck with your decision you make </TD></TR></TABLE>

the 96-00 cx trans is the same as the HX trans. Both being the same as the 96-00 dx trans except that it has a 3.722 final instead of a 4.058. The DX trans provides a use to some people that are making LOTS of power and run smaller slicks.

There is an advantage in running your 1.782 2nd gear along with a 1.25 3rd gear, taller 2nd gear that doesn't break loose with boost, and a shorter 3rd for a more ideal RPM drop.
