y1 cable lsd final drive sets?
i got a y1 lsd tranny and want to make the gears shorter. whats the best way? do they make any final drive sets for these trannies? or would the lsd swap over to a j1/s1 cable trannies? please help, thanks.

none of the small splines can be converted with tighter final drive kits, only the 92/93 trannies can. The best you can do is find tight geared Y1 gearsets if oyu don't already have the tightest as they come.

Basically, the only way your gonna get a tighter FD gear, I get in touch with Jamie Houseman. Expect to pay $1500-1800 for a custom gearset.

You can't use any parts from a 1992-01 transmission in your 1989-91 Y1/A1/J1/S1s. All Y1/A1/S1/J1 parts are interchangable, so you can swap in the 4.40 final drive.
Perhaps D series tranny parts will work as well...

The 1992-01 B-series transmissions have a 26mm input shaft. 1989-91 transmissions have a 25mm input shaft. I don't think that there are any common parts (internal ****, like gear sets, diffs, etc.) between the two generations.

The y1 is the only small spline b-series trans that comes with the 4.266 final drive.
Both the LSD and non-LSD y1s are 4.266.
Unfortunatly, you are definatly not going to be able to change out the final
drive. The LSD that the Y1 trans came with is a bit of an oddball. The final drive
is actually part of the LSD casing, and not just a ring gear like most other diffs.
Although personally, i dont know why you would want to to mess with the final drive
to begin with. The y1 has the -perfect- gearing IMO. 1st gear starts just high
enough, and the rest of the gears are nice and close.
Take my opinion into consideration, ive run every bseries cable trans over the last
few years: Y1, usdm S1, jdm S1, J1, and i prefer the y1. Im currently running a
y1 first - fourth gearset with an LS 5th gear, in an LS case. Perfect combo IMO.
