Stock 93 Civic Cluster/Tach.

Ok, here's my weird *** problem. Car has been running OK for a few weeks. Now all of a sudden, it idles at 0. The thing is it's probably idling at the same place it always has (750rpm), but it just shows 0 on my tach.

THEN, while driving, say at 80mph, I SHOULD be at 4000-4200rpm in 5th gear (GSR Tranny), but now after 2 weeks of showing what it should be at, it now shows 5000-5200rpm at 80mph...

??????

So basically when it's at idle, it reads too low.... and when it's driving, it reads too high... Not only that, but I notice the needle moves a LOT faster now. What is up with that? Bad tach?

 

Set up a another tach, like i am not saying go buy one but borrow a friends aftermarcket tach just slap it on the distubitor an see how it reads, maybe you burned up a wire or something, but test it with another tach first, you know..

 

ok, weird thing is it's back to normal now.... i had it do that to me before...... like after i push it really hard (racing), but it usually just requires a restart and it goes back to normal..... this time it lasted for like 1 week.......

and now it's back to normal.......

if it matters, i have a VERY irratice idle (i have no idea what causes it)...

 

Your distributor is probably going bad; erratic tach operation is sometimes the first symptom.
