is it worth to rebuild stock block?
My kid brother keep dropping auto-bomb shifts on his EK EX auto. The block started to develop a rod knock. So we swapped it out for a new motor.
This was 4 years ago.
I was cleaning up the garage and was thinking what I should do with the block.
Questions:
1) When rebuilding block, does it matter the reason why it's in need of a rebuild?
2) Can i rebuild it myself with new bearing and rod bolts, ect w/out needed to get crank or block work done?

are you talking about rebuilding it to stock or 'building' it?
#1 is the crank. if only the bearing took the brunt of it and the crank is ok then you can rebuild it. if the crank has some scoring on it it should be taken to a machine shop to measure and judge it properly. by eye though if it is only light, barely fingernail catching lines, it should be able to be polished out.

this is just rebuilding back to stock.
so if there is a rod knock, it means either the rod bearing took the beating or crank journals did right?

i wouldn't waste the time and effort rebuilding a block blindly (to stock specs or for performance purposes). make no assumptions about what is needed. if it wasn't running right when it came out, check everything.
i would visually inspect everything to get an idea of what deffinately needs to be replaced. then i would measure what "looked good" to know for sure.
for your first build, i would suggest doing the teardown and reassembly yourself, but let a qualified machine shop handle the inspection and needed machining.

the bearings are trash immediately.
but it takes time to hurt the crank and a stock motor. if it isn't driven once it starts knocking it will usually be ok.
