worst case of getting pulled over!
if a cop pops your hood and you've got a JDM motor sitting there, say B16a in a crx, what would you say? in this case it might be better going with the built D series?
well, most likely the cop won't know the difference. unless he's versed in honda motors he won't know what the stock motor should even look like. Its gonna be the bolt ons that get you. Say you have an intake that isn't CARB legal, he'll see that and write you up, if you have to go to the ref or get it checked by someone who knows more...then they might notice that its an engine swap and you'll get dinged.
Police pull you over to enforce vehicle safety and proper road conduct, not to be roving smog refs. They don't really care what you have under the hood, they care if you are driving 95 in a 65. I mean really, has anyone ever had a cop check under their hood other than ones that were just car guys and interested in what you ran?
about 30 of us had to open our hoods when the races got busted about 2 months ago. cops don't know what the hell they're looking for or at but they pretend, 3 of my friends have 88-91's with built b16's and b20's , they simply took out some morons cobra eyes and looked for NAAAAWWWWSS! of which they didn't even notice on my friends b20.
whenever i get pulled over and they see my team banner and my exhaust and the lowered car i get asked if i'm "shootin' NOS in this thing?" . any body else or is that just me???
i hate cops!!, I wonder if there are any cops on H-T.com? i'm sure there must be a few cops in this country that are honda owners and weekend warriors. you know, like paul walker.. lol

There are only a very few bad cops, so I wouldn't give them all a bad rap for hassling you at a street race. I'd wouldn't blame them if they kicked you in the nuts for participating in one, it's about the most irresponsible thing someone can do with a car other than intentionally going Grand Theft Auto on the street. A friend of mine is a federal police officer and also used to own a 10 second Honda.
And nitrous is not illegal to have in a car (assuming it's a legal kit), you just can't actually use it on public roads. Some local jurisdictions prevent it from being connected, and I believe a few others prohibit a charged nitrous tank from being in the car (it is after all an oxidizer, though a stable one at anywhere near room temps). For the most part though it's completely legal to drive around in the US with a nitrous system.

It's really difficult for you to get busted for having a different motor as long as you have motor from same brand of your chasis, i.e. civic w/ any series, even k.
Because they'll all say Honda Motor Company and cops know that Acura is Honda, but that's about it.
I went to get my car smogged, the smog tech didn't say a word about my JDM b20vtec w/ b17head. He wrote down 1.8L on the certificate. Also even if you get cited for intake and stuff, I think you could just pay the fine and not go to ref.
