Not Vista, not sure about Windows 7, I have had the least amount of problems with Windows XP, I am computer "illiterate" so the last thing I need is problems, when I got the computer it came with Vista, what a constant PITA, I replaced it with Windows XP, when it was time to replace my computer, [two months ago] I found a shop that would still load Windows XP into a new computer. 94

Take the above with a grain of salt, as I said, I know next to nothing about computers, but I do know what works for me.

i would get a system with vista if you are buying a new computer. this will give you the option to upgrade to windows 7 whenever you want for free if you do not like vista. i personally use vista and have very few problems with it other than a few compatibilty issues when trying to use older programs. i have not used windows 7 yet but would love to try it. from what i have read (and i have read a lot!) windows 7 has far fewer compatibility issues and the setting to run programs in a mode for a different operating system (ie. windows xp) works far better.

I am a bit of a geek so if you have any questions like good brands to buy PM me.

oh also windows 7 uses far fewer system resources than vista, meaning that you dont need as fast of a computer to run it.

As a IT professional I suggest either going with windows 7 or XP. vista will be a bad idea. I also recommend sticking to the 32 bit version to ensure maximum compatibility but 64 bit editions are made well now so if you go with a 64 bit version you wont have a problem with it either.

I agree that windows 7 is probably a better choice, but considering right now any new laptop that comes with vista can be upgraded at no cost to windows 7 it may be the better choice to start with because the OP can try vista and if they dont like it switch to 7. Also i agree that XP is better than vista but XP machines are hard to find now days and they dont allow for a free upgrade to the new windows 7. personally i never run an OS as soon as it comes out because it will always have some bugs and security problems. that is another reason i would go with vista for now and 7 in a couple months
